Quiet Bulkhead

bulkhead Noise KillerAfter making cardboard templates, I cut and fit shapes made from the blank sheet of Noise Killer’s barrier mat to the engine side of the bulkhead. the underside of the bonnet and inner wings will also be covered. I also fitted the cleaned and repainted TD5 heater assembly, which uses the same top montings as the SIII unit and only require two holes drilling through the top of the footwell to secure its bottom edge.

Hi Nick, how good do you find the barrier mat at damping down the noise? I’ve got a bulkhead that I want to do but I’m undecided on what to use at the moment. I also want to use it under the seatbox and gearbox tunnel too, is this suitable for that?

It didn’t seem to make much difference, to be honest, though the same product in the sides of the hard top made a big difference to the “booming” coming from the rear end. For the cab and bulkhead, i found most of the quietening effect was from the Wright Off road kit. The other issue with the Noise killer matting is that it uses open-cell foam, which absorbs water like a sponge – not much help for rust prevention and only worth considering for a bulkhead if it’s galvanised like mine.
