Cargo Rails
Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I have finished fitting the aluminium cargo rails to each wheel arch top and load bay side in the back end of the tub. The rails are three feet long and use movable clips for lasshing straps or nets. The top rails were cut around the fuel filler neck, battery compartment lid hinges and second row seat belts. All sections were fitted to the tub with 10.6 high tensile M6 countersunk bolts, with 25mm washers under the nuts to make sure the nuts can’t pull through or into the aluminium tub skin if a load is snatched on the rail.
I am now in the process of fitting some power points at the back for the fridge and for recharging the camping lights. These will take the form of a trio of DIN sockets adjacent to the back door, near the rear lights’ internal cover panel. This makes connection to the auxilliary battery very easy, with both batteries in the lidded compartment next to the rear door.
