Rolling Chassis

Not a lot needed doing to the axles – the front axle had been rebuilt a couple of years before with new bearings, seals, rubber gaiters and brake cylinders. The swivel pins and Railko bushes had been done prior to that. The rear Salisbury axle was replaced with a new unit from MVS at about the same time. As a result, the axles were just cleaned up and repainted.

New bushes were fitted to the five year old TIC heavy duty parabolics before attaching their front ends to the chassis’ spring hangers, fitting the axles to the springs, then attaching the rear end of each spring to the new 1-ton shackles.

The rebuilt gearbox (which triggered this whole project) has been fitted to clear more space in the garage. This needed a new primary shaft, mainshaft 2nd and 3rd gears, layshaft input gear and 3rd/4th synchro hub in addition to the new bearings and seals. I didn’t attach the overdrive to the transfer box as it has an endfloat problem since it was rebuilt a couple of months before the gearbox. I’ll deal with it later.
