Well, 500 miles have passed since fitting the Roverdrive, so today I drained the oil from the transfer case, fitted the Rock Mountain transfer box bottom plate and replenished the box with fresh oil. The new bottom plate is thicker and won’t buckle and leak, but it also acts as a radiator to keep the transfer box and Roverdrive oil temperature down.
I’ve been having a small issue with the steering since the rebuild. Nothing much; just a very slight drift to the near side (like following the camber of a sloped road, but on the flat), and a mildly annoying difference in feel between left and right turns – the wheel is a little easier to turn to the left (near side). I think I have traced this to the positions of the steering arms and rod lengths which have, now that I have the LR manuals on disc, been reset to factory specification. Rain prevented me from finishing the job – I have to refit the batteries before going on a test drive – but I expect it to be perfect tomorrow.
