Boring Work

The block has been taken to a local engineering shop for assessment and rectification.  It’ll be getting a rebore to +20 thou with a new set of AE pistons.  The pistons and crankshaft bearings have been ordered from Turner Engineering and were expected today, but the delivery didn’t arrive.

I’m sure they’ll be here tomorrow, but it would have been nice to be able to take them to the engineers so that they could rebore the block first thing on Monday.  A small delay won’t matter too much, though, as this is an expensive time of year already and the parts cost me £250, while the fuel components have cost a little under £500.  I still need a timing belt, fan belt and all the gaskets and seals.  I think they’ll have to wait until early next month.

I’m just glad I opened up the engine for inspection.  While this rectification work is costinga significant sum, it will result in an “as new” engine capable of the typical 400,000 miles of a 200Tdi that, with my current annual mileage (about 6,000 per annum), should last the rest of my lifetime!
