Engine Noise reduction

Sorry, but I have no photos for this simple little job.

Despite all the sound proofing efforts made on this vehicle, it’s still a fairly noisy place to be, especially when going over 60mph.  I fitted the rocker cover sound proofing pad from a 300Tdi engine to this 200Tdi.  It needed a little trimming to fit, including removing the section that would cover the inlet manifold on a Discovery 200Tdi or a 300Tdi, plus a little more to clear the turbo charger’s waste gate actuator and front lifting eye, but it now fits very neatly.

On the kids’ school run through town it didn’t seem to make the slightest difference, but my drive to work last night seemed significantly quieter than the usual high speed volume level – I was able to listen to the radio several settings lower than before.

I have no idea how many decibels of noise have been reduced, but it seems a pretty quick and easy way of reducing high rpm engine noise, even though it does little for low rpm noise reduction.  Worthwhile, if you can get one of those pads cheaply.
