I find this to be a wonderful addition in the winter. Early kits had a single heat setting, as I fitted to my RRC, but the later kits like in the 109 have two settings, controlled independently by the two three-position rocker switches included in the kit. I find the hottest setting so effective that I can only use it for about five minutes even on the coldest of winter days before having to select the lower setting.
I wasn’t keen on the small switches, so used Carling Tech switches in the 109 main dash alongside the other accessories and using Gen Parts original switches in the RRCs, but that’s a minor choice for the individual. The installation of the heating pads isn’t too difficult either. The main problem is that the glue holding the fabric of the seat base cushion to the top of the heat pad after fitting doesn’t seem to hold well on Defender seats, so the fabric tends to pop up like a drum skin.
The kits a pretty expensive and, I suspect, heavily marked up, but the comfort they bring is very welcome.
Effectiveness: 8/10
Value for money: 5/10
