Designed for the pre 2002 Defenders , it fits the SIII well too. There may be minor fit issues on most SIIIs; I had already fitted the grey plastic back trim panel and rigid parcel shelf edging from a Defender, so SIII owners may have a small gap to fill where the console passes over the shelf edge and may need to use spire clips for the back panel fixing screws to bite into as they are located in the voids for the vent flaps.
Installation is pretty simple, though will need the centre of the parcel shelf front cutting away if deep accessories like stereos or CBs are to be mounted low down. Shallow switches or gauges, power sockets and such like may not need such surgery of the dash.
The product is much cheaper than the comparable Iron Goat product and is much more flexible in what you can fit and where. I also think it is much more attractive than the Raptor Engineering console, and while the front is made only of vacuum formed plastic, it seems more than adequately strong for its purpose. With an optional Land Rover badge (several different types available) fitted to the recessed emblem spot in the black leather-textured plastic front (which matches the appearance of the dash top and lower fascia well), it has the potential to look like a factory component.
It’s a simple and cost effective way of neatly adding many more accessories.
Effectiveness: 9/10
Value for money: 8/10
