Only a few jobs left to do

rear seatsrear seatrear seatsThe seating is now complete. The floor matting was cut to exact measurement to allow the biscuit tins to bolt directly through the floor panel, using high tensile M10 bolts and steel spreaders underneath. The seats are secured to the tops of the biscuit tins and wheel arches with stainles M6 dome heads and rivnuts. The rear most seatbelt stalks have not been attached to the floor mountings just inside the rear door yet as I want to fit some quick release fixings so that the stalks won’t be permanently in the way. The fold-up Trakkers are still fitted as before in row three. I also tidied up the La Salle roof lining’s joints and alpine light surrounds.

fire extinguisherhandbrakeThe handbrake lever has been enamelled, refitted and adjusted. I fitted a new SIII rubber gaiter, but found that a Defender gaiter would also fit over the front with one extra screw hole drilled through the SIII gaiter retainer and seatbase. I think it tidies it up well, and should help reduce any noise coming though the lever apperture. The whole interior was then given a hoover and the mats cleaned with autoglym. The BCF fire extinguisher is now mounted.
The exterior has also had some attention. The rear door’s lower seal is fitted, the towing socket wired up, the grille has been installed and the second spare wheel is on the bonnet. Alun is going to turn the old bonnet spare rubber buffers down by 1″ on his lathe to allow me to lower the spare wheel to 1/4″ above the bonnet, helping forward visibility. I had to take some photos for the insurance company, which are shown here. The cold, damp weather has persisted, so there’s a lot of dew on the bodywork. The paint has all been rectified though, and looks pretty slick in the flesh.
