The Roverdrive has been rebuilt with the new front casing. Changing the casing over required the use of a hydraulic press, but was a simple enough procedure. The job has highlighted that the front bearing is actually alright – it felt a little rough by hand, but that was because the bearing was dry after cleaning in a parts washer. The unit is lovely and quiet with fresh mineral EP90 in the transmission when engaged, but is a little rumbly when engaged, so I will be replacing the smaller rear bearing (6005) with a brand new SKF bearing I bought for £9 (incl) from my local bearing supplier when I change the transfer box oil at the end of the new low range gears’ running in period. It should only take about half an hour to do the job, but I’ll allow a whole day just in case.
