Steering Swap

I managed to clean up and fit the ’72 steering system (except the seized relay). The rods got six new ends and a coat of black enamel. The steering box was cleaned with a wire brush before having the interior washed out with petrol. It was all in pretty good order, the slight graunching being down to over adjustment and dry bearings which was subsequently eliminated.

The steering box was a bit fiddly to remove and refit – the rocker arm was a pig to remove from its shaft and the box brackets had to be disconnected from the chassis and footwell to allow the inner column to slide out from the outer, but the steering is now tight again in all positions.
