I have carefully read the Land Rover Owners Handbook, and the section about bolt-on extras clearly states that R sourced snorkels, roof racks, tow hitches, mud flaps, side/rear steps, bull bars, A-bars and light guards are designed for the vehicle and also the vehicle designed for the extras, and terms them accessories. As far as I am concerned, that means that they cannot possibly be construed as modifications because the car was specifically designed to have them. So, I have installed the front light guards in order to protect the front body work from future dents. Happily, because of the previous work straightening the front wings and light trim panels, the gaps between the guards, trims and grille panel are all even, unlike any Defenders in the show room.  I’ll fit the snorkel when we change insurers on renewal, treating it too as an accessory and not a modification.
