No Test

No test today – it was cancelled at short notice.  It’s not a bad thing, really, as I found a problem with the steering as I tried to get the car off the driveway and onto the road at around three hours before the scheduled test time.  I wasn’t able to get more than about half right lock, though left lock was unaffected.  It’s something to do with the drag link lengths and the steering relay arm positions.  I have pretty much cured it – the movement is now full in both directions.  I want to get it set so that the straight-ahead position is with the steering box in the middle of its available rotations, so that the wear and thus feel turning in each direction is equal – at the moment it get a little tight on the last 1/4 turn to the right.

Before the cancellation I managed a few little tidying jobs, like fitting the third row seat belt buckles to the floor, the wirning harness’ rubber grommets to the bulkhead and some convoluted tubing to wrap the wiring bundles along the off-side inner wing from the bulkhead to the front battery.   That last job only took five minutes, but really tidies up that area of the engine bay and offers a lot of protection to the wiring where it passes the rear battery fastenings.

I’ll try to book a new test for Tuesday or Wednesday.  I’ll get the steering sorted tomorrow, folowed by doing some more work on the interior – the forecast looks very wet and is no good for sealing the panel joints.  I should be able to fit the Discovery gearstick gaiter and get a start on fitting the Defender mudflaps that I collected this afternoon before the next test booking.
