The military oil cooler is now fully operational. Not cheap or easy, as all the pipework to match a SIII chassis and cooler to a 12J/19J had to be made up specially, but it worked a treat. The oil stat and feed line were installed yesterday as per the preceding post.
Today, I fitted the return lines. This consists of a flexible hose that drops from the top left corner of the cooler, through the left steering relay aperture, and finishes just below the x-member with a 90 degree union. The second half of the return line runs from the vertical hose, along the underside of the x-member (P-clipped in place) and over the feed line to the filter housing. The picture from below the steering guard shows not only the return line (with 90 deg union on right), but also the modified injection pump cover on the timing case, which now has a remote breather to prevent water being sucked in through the crankshaft seals when entering cold water.
I have also finished stripping the front wings, and plan to fit the new outer skins tomorrow.

Hi Nick
How did you clean the oil cooler? It looks a bit difficult to get a wire brush in their as their isn’t much room. Looks like you’ve painted the “bristles” as well
Ian
I put it through a garage’s automatic parts cleaner, much like a dishwasher with solvent instead of detergent. Soaking for a few days in a petrol filled bucket also works well.
