The Classic is in for an MoT test tomorrow, so it had a new rear exhaust today. I also fitted new rear discs and pads as the old discs had become very rusted around the edge. That rust was wearing the associated area of the relatively new pads and leading to a smaller friction surface and poor brake efficiency. I went for EBC drilled and grooved discs and “Green Stuff” pads for much better braking performance than the standard equipment; I don’t drive it fast, and the 300Tdi engine is in standard tune, but since I was able to get these EBC upgrades at a similar price to standard AP parts, it made sense to improve the setup.
I’d like to have done the work sooner, as the new brakes will take time to bed in, but I just didn’t have the opportunity. As it is, I still need to replace the front discs and pads too, but I’m still waiting for new swivel seals that need replacing at the same time.
