Chassis Mod/Grille and Slam Panel

xmember modI managed to cut the mod part for the intermediate cross-member with a 115mm grinder. As I mentioned, the wall thickness is 8mm, so it is more than strong enough. The angle at which it is welded dramatically increases the rigidity of te modifaction too. Thanks go to Muddybungy, who did just as good a job of the welding as I have come to expect from him.The whole part and surronding area have been given two good coats of Zinc 182, almost as good as Galvafroid. Tomorrow it’ll get a few coats of Schutz.
slamI have fabricated the slam panel brace brackets to secure the lower ends of the braces to the bumper bolts. These were made of steel angle, and have plastic edging trim to prevent any possibilty of them chaffing the wing paint and starting any eleectrolytic corrosion. The slam panel is in place. Only the lower end is secured – the wings need drilling to cross-bolt the top of the panell and the grille panel.
x member mod2The grille panel has been cut to fit around the winch. This required the removal of all the lower section in line with the vertical edges of the apperture. The plastic grille will also need cutting around the winch, something I had hoped would not be neccessary.

This should all be completed tomorrow, and the rear prop shaft will be refitted. The chassis is now completely ready for the rear tub, painting of which is well under way, and should be completed by Thursday.

I also fitted the new bonnet stay and spare wheel buffers to the bonnet.
