I have fitted the repainted tools to the tail gate and the refurbished antenna box to the right wing. I’m still waiting for the second antenna and the rubber strip for the tailgate, but the strip is a 60 second job to fit and the antenna is only going to be wanted for the next time the Lightweight is displayed, but I expect them to arrive tomorrow. Anyway, here are a couple of photos of the completed job.
I have also had a standard length starting handle cut down and re-pinned to the correct length to be stowed in the under-bonnet clips and bought a RRC/Discovery bottle jack (the type that cradles the axle and has a double acting piston) – the jack is stowed in the tool box and the handle and wheel brace clipped in with the stating handle, so the vehicle has a full set of basic tools.
I’m not a great fan of lightweights (i would rather have a defender), but this one does look like a nice example. Have you painted it or was it all done when you got it?
It was resprayed by the previous owner. The exterior is well done except for the front ends of the front wings. The load bay was just sprayed without smoothing out the battered layers of old paint, so it not quite as smooth but is still reasonably smart. The cab wasn’t painted, and though it’s still in good order, a quick going over with a gloss roller will help once the windscreens are replaced and the surface rust on the upper bulkhead joint is cleaned off.
